AWANA is an international Bible club for children. At Open Door Baptist Church, we meet for 32 weeks throughout the school year (August-April) for 90 minutes. Our clubs meet on Tuesday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.
A typical week is scheduled like this:
 4:30 to 4:40--Opening exercises
 4:40 to 5:00--Bible lesson for all children.
 5:00 to 5:25--Handbook time.
 5:25 to 5:35--Snack time.
 5:35 to 6:00--Game time.
We provide AWANA for the following age groups:
 Cubbies:  Preschool children, aged 3 and older;
 Sparks:  Kindergarten through 2nd grade;
 Truth 'n Training:  3rd through 6th grades.
Each child works through a handbook geared toward his age group; awards are given for progress made in the books. At the end of AWANA year, we have a final Awards Night, as well as the AWANA Store, where the children can "buy" items with AWANA Bucks earned by the progress they have made through the year.
During the summer, for this same age group, we have Vacation Bible School: a week of Bible lessons, games, crafts, and contests.
Also in the summer, a week of Bible camp is available for children entering the 3rd grade and older. If you are interested, please see the link on this website to Camp Tishomingo.
